Current Projects

Padek is currently working in partnership with USAID, Oxfam America, ECHO and the Canadian Hunger Foundation (CHF) to implement several projects that strengthen the capacity of local communities and improves their livelihoods. Padek and Oxfam America are partnering on the Integrated SRI into Community Development project over three years (2010-2013). The project’s goal is to build the capacity of the small-scale farmers to be able to improve their food security as well as income through increased productivity by using SRI techniques. The project is being implemented in 83 villages across ten communes in two districts in Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces. This project was completed in early 2013.

Padek is partnering with CHF on the Livelihoods Approach to Food Security, Environmental Protection and Governance project. This four-year project (2010-2014) is being run in the Oral district of Kompong Speu province, covering 15 villages and reaching almost 700 households. The project aims to reduce poverty through improved sustainable livelihoods for the vulnerable poor and to further strengthen Padek’s capacity in project delivery and organisational building.

Padek is partnering with the European Commission’s Humanitarian aid and Civil Protection Directorate General (ECHO) to deliver the Building Disaster Resilient Communities in Cambodia project which is funded under the Commission’s disaster preparedness programme, DIPECHO (Disaster Preparedness ECHO).

This project targets highly vulnerable communities living in disaster-prone and remote areas in Cambodia. It aims to increase the resilience of local communities and reduce their vulnerability to natural disasters through strengthened governance and increased local capacity. This 18-month project (June 2012 – November 2013) is being implemented in 35 villages across three districts in Kompong Speu and Prey Veng provinces. Padek and the European Commission (ECHO) are partnering on a second DRR project, titled Recovering Livelihoods and Building Resilience of Communities project. This 10- month project is being implemented in Prey Veng and Kratie provinces, covering 31 villages across 7 communes. The project targeted poor and vulnerable households living in areas badly affected by the 2011 floods in Cambodia. The project aimed to help these communities alleviate acute food shortages, restore livelihoods, reduce reliance on the coping mechanisms, and increase resilience to natural disasters and outbreaks of disease.

This project is due for completion in 2013. Padek is partnering with USAid on the Helping Address Rural Vulnerabilities and Ecosystem Stability (HARVEST) project in Siem Reap and Kampong Thom provinces over three years (2012-2015). The core goals of the project are to increase food availability and access, strengthen natural resource management and resilience to climate change, and to increase the capacity of the private and public sectors and civil society to support agricultural competitiveness. Project activities include helping farmers to diversify their farming practices and crops, improving farming technologies and seed quality, and encouraging income-generating activities for poor households.
